CITIZENS' CHARTER FOR BUREAU OF IMMIGRATION

 

OUR ORGANISATION

 

The Bureau of Immigration (BoI) was set up in the year 1971, by Government of India, to perform immigration functions in the country. Presently, BoI is headed by Commissioner (Immigration). He is assisted by Foreigners Regional Registration Officers (FRROs) for Immigration functions at the Airports, Sea-ports, Rail and Land Check Posts and work related to Registration of foreigners under variuos Acts and Rules. At present, there are 81 Immigration Check Posts (ICPs) in the country to facilitate international travellers. Registration facilities are provided at all major cities as well as district headquarters in all States at FRROs/FROs.

 

Services Provided

I. At the Immigration Check Post:

  • Immigration clearance of persons (Foreigners as well as Indians) travelling abroad and re-entering India.
  • Issuance of Visa on Arrival at four designated checkpoints for eligible countries only.
  • Issuance of Temporary Landing Permit/Temporary Landing Facilities in case of emergency/passengers transiting without visa.
  • Granting entry/exit to crew-members.
  • Providing special immigration counters for Diplomats, PIO/OCI card holders, women passenger with children and wheel chair passengers.
  • Collecting Residential Permits of registered foreign nationals leaving in India for good.
  • Issuance of Temporary Residential Permit to Pakistani nationals (at designated Check Posts).

II. At the FRRO/FRO Office:

  1. Registration of foreigners
  2. Issuance of exit permits.
  3. Extesnsion of visa.
  4. Extension of stay permits to refugees.
  5. Issuance of Temporary Residential Permit to Afghan nationals.
  6. Issuance of Police Clearance Certificate to foreigners.
  7. Issuance of Return Visa.
  8. Issuance of exit permission.
  9. Issuance of Special Area Permit.
  10. Transfer of visa to new passport.
  11. Transfer of Registration Certificate from one FRRO/FRO to another.
  12. Issuance of PIO Cards.
  13. Issaunce of OCI Cards.
  14. Extension of Landing Permit Facility in Emergency.
  15. Extension/Conversion of Tourist Visa on Arrival on case-to-case basis.
  16. Issuance of Residential Certificate and Residential Permit to registered foreigners.
  17. Deportation of foreigners residing illegally, violating visa rules or under expulsion orders of the Court.
  18. Issuance of leave India notice.
  19. Maintainence of data base on registered foreigners.
ACCESS TO INFORMATION
  1. WEBSITE:Updated information is available on our official website (www. immigrationindia.nic.in and www.mha.nic.in)
  2. SIGNAGES: Display boards containing information on documents required for registration, extenstion and visa fees are displayed at ICPs and FRROs.
  3. E-MAIL: Suggestions and complaints are looked into for assessing the effectiveness and viability at BoI manned International Airports.
  4. INFORMATION MATERIAL:Pamphlets and leaflets providing information on various visa categories are available at the Reception Desk and the Airports.
  5. HELP DESK: Enquiry/Reception counters also provide information on registration requirements.
EXISTING FACILITIES
  1. Provision for on-line submission of applications for registration.
  2. Assistance for senior citizens, medically ill persons, patients, disabled persons.
  3. Availability of system generated token system with photograph, at the Reception in Registration Offices with digital display boards and audio systems.
  4. Provision of clean drinking water and washrooms.
  5. Adequate seating arrangements with covered waiting hall.
  6. Writing Desk/Board facility with provision of filling up of forms.
  7. Facilities for downloading application forms from website.
OUR EXPECTATIONS
  • Avoid visa violation.
  • Avoid frivolous and anonymous complaints.
  • Access information available through various channels (website, pamphlets, signage, telephonic queries, e-mail etc.)
  • Do not approach touts for any assistance.
  • Bear with us in case of delay due to unavoidable reasons.
  • Complete filling up of Arrival/Departure cards in Block (Capitals) and in Blue/Black ink before approaching Immigration counters.

  2. Display Boards containing details of Contact Officer for redressal of Grievances/Complaints at ICPs/Registration Offices.
  3. Feedback forms are available at ICPs/Registration Offices.
  4. Provision for sending Grievances/suggestions via e-mail.
